Swimcloud uses various point systems to evaluate swim performances, ensuring alignment with different meet types and organizational standards. This guide will help you understand the distinctions between point systems used in meet results and swimmer profiles, as well as how rankings are displayed.
Points in Meet Results:
Different types of meets employ specific point systems, reflecting various governing body standards:
- USA Swimming's PowerPoints - Used for US-based club meets, calculated against national age group standards.
- Collegiate Points - Applicable to collegiate meets, based on the US Open Record.
- FINA Points - Shown for international meets, calculated against the World Record.
- NISCA Points - Used at High School meets in the US, based on NISCA’s proprietary system.
To identify the point system in use, hover over the column header in meet results. Each system has its own scale and base time, making comparisons across systems challenging.
Each of these point systems has a different scale and also a different base time which makes comparisons between systems confusing.
Points on a Swimcloud swimmer profile
To facilitate comparison across different events and organizational standards, Swimcloud has developed our own proprietary point system to compare swimmers across events, ages, and regions.
. This system ensures clear and consistent scoring across different levels of competition, allowing swimmers to gauge their performance accurately, no matter the meet type or location.
- Ranking Display: We display only the top 100 rankings in each category. This ensures encouragement and avoids discouraging swimmers by not highlighting lower rankings.
- Profile Updates: To see your state ranking, ensure your profile and meet results are current. Add all relevant performances to your profile.
Swimmer Rankings
Swimmer rankings are based on performance scores throughout the season. Rankings appear selectively on both Swimmer Profiles and Regional Ranking pages to foster a positive environment that encourages swimmers without causing discouragement.
Swimmer profiles will display numerical rankings if the swimmer is:
- Ranked within the top 20 on their team
- Ranked within the top 100 in their region.
Region rankings will list the top 300 swimmers in a given ranking. This allows swimmers and coaches to view a comprehensive ranking landscape without overwhelming individual profiles.
Regional Assignment of Swimmers
Swimcloud tracks swimmers' times regardless of their team or location. Even if competing internationally, swimmers can have their times reflected in their home region by keeping their profile address up-to-date.
