Connect to SST Timing System

Superior Swim Timing (SST) integrates seamlessly with Swimcloud Meet, providing reliable timing and streamlined meet management. This guide will walk you through the steps to set up your SST system and connect it to Swimcloud Meet.

Overview

By connecting SST to Swimcloud Meet, you can:

  • Automate timing and data transfer.
  • Manage entries and results efficiently.
  • Enable Swimcloud’s optional live virtual scoreboard integration for spectators.

Before proceeding, ensure you have the required hardware and software.

Hardware and Software Requirements

  1. Hardware:
    • SST timer with the latest firmware.
    • Necessary timing equipment (deck cables, pads, buttons, electronic starter, etc.).
    • A Windows-based computer for the SST software.
    • Optional: Swimcloud Scoreboard Adapter and a compatible serial-to-USB cable. A live internet connection is needed for this.
  2. Software:
    • SST Software (available at www.superiorswimtiming.com).
    • Swimcloud Meet desktop application (download from www.swimcloud.com/desktop). Swimcloud Meet can be installed on the same computer as the SST Software. Or, Swimcloud Meet can be installed on a separate computer as long as this computer has access to the shared meet folder.
  3. File Sharing Setup:
    • Create a dedicated, shared meet folder for exchanging data between SST and Swimcloud Meet.

Step 1: Hardware Setup

  1. Positioning and Connecting the SST Timer
    • Place the SST timer in a safe location away from water.
    • Connect the harness to the timer and ensure all pads and/or buttons are properly attached to the harness.
    • If using an electronic starter, connect it to the timer’s "start" port.
  2. Connecting the SST Timer to a Computer
    • Use the provided USB cable to connect the SST timer to a Windows computer.
    • For pre-Windows 10 systems, install the required drivers (refer to the SST manual for specific instructions).
  3. Optional: Connecting a Scoreboard
    • For live updates, connect the Swimcloud Virtual Scoreboard Adapter to the SST timer using a serial-to-USB cable.
    • Configure the scoreboard settings in the SST software.

Step 2: Software Installation

  1. Install Swimcloud Meet
  2. Install the SST Software
    • Download the latest SST software from www.superiorswimtiming.com.
    • Follow the installation instructions and ensure the software is operational.
    • Verify that the SST timer is detected by the software under “Devices.”

Step 3: Create a Shared Meet Folder

  1. Why Share a Folder?
    Swimcloud Meet and SST need to exchange files for meet management. A shared folder ensures both systems can read and write data.

    • Create a folder on the computer running SST, preferably in the Documents directory (e.g., Documents\SST_Meets).

  3. Test Access To Shared Folder
    • If Swimcloud Meet is on a separate computer, verify that it can access the shared folder. Use a test file to confirm read/write functionality.

Step 4: Configure Swimcloud Meet

  1. Prepare the Meet
    • Log into Swimcloud and create your meet.
    • Process entries and seed the meet in Swimcloud Meet.
  2. Export Meet Files for SST
    • Open the Swimcloud Meet Application
      1. Click on the Time system button
      2. Select the Super Swim Timing box
      3. Select the shared meet folder for this meet
      4. Click the Export Schedule blue button to export the meet files (generic.sch and .scb files) to the shared folder.

Step 5: Configure SST Software

  1. Load the Meet in SST
    • Open the SST software and go to File > Set Session Folder.
    • Navigate to the shared folder created earlier
    • Select the generic.sch file to import the event schedule, heats, and lane assignments to the SST console
  2. Verify Configuration
    • Check the lane setup, pad/button configurations, and start/finish settings in the SST system.

Step 6: Test the System

  1. Run SST Test Mode
    • In SST, enable Test Mode from the Help menu.
    • Verify that pad touches, buttons, and the electronic starter are detected correctly.
  2. Test Swimcloud Meet Connection
    • Start a test race in SST. Confirm that results are transferred to Swimcloud Meet and appear accurately.

Optional: Set Up Swimcloud’s Virtual Live Scoreboard

  1. Virtual Scoreboard
    • Connect to the serial scoreboard via the Swimcloud Virtual Scoreboard Adapter.
    • In Swimcloud Meet, click on the Scoreboard button in the upper right corner
    • Select the Com Port for the Virtual Scoreboard
    • Open the port in SST and verify communication to Swimcloud Meet

 

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

  • SST Not Detected:
    Ensure drivers are installed, and the timer appears as a COM port in Windows.
  • File Sharing Problems:
    Check network permissions and test with a small test file.
  • Race Results Missing:
    Verify the session folder is correctly set in SST and Swimcloud Meet.
